Our story began with a live show that launched in February of 2017 in Shanghai, China, where we’ve been producing curated, monthly live shows ever since. In January of 2022, we hosted our first live show in Bali, Indonesia. 

Unravel is a platform dedicated to harnessing the power of storytelling for impact and connection. We make space for and amplify human stories through our curated live shows and original content, and through the work we do with local partners and initiatives to empower individuals and organizations to tell their stories more effectively.

Unravel Celebrates 3 Years of STories

“Three years, every feeling in the rainbow, more than 125 storytellers, 28 live shows, and a dozen community collaborations later… it’s safe to say I didn’t fully comprehend the power of story when I started this adventure. But as our team has expanded and our platform has grown, I remain endlessly inspired and deeply grateful for the support and the community that has grown around Unravel like a glorious cocoon.

This last year we’ve celebrated even more milestones: the launch of the first season of our podcast, written stories being published on our platform for the first time, over 20,000 RMB raised for charitable initiatives, the expansion of our Unravel Impact workshops with schools and companies, and the premiere of our first ever Made-For-WeChat ‘Unravel Your Story’ workshop.

Sharing and listening to stories is how we move through daily life, how we communicate with others, set our goals, build our value systems and our worldviews. Storytelling is how we stay entertained, engaged, inspired, challenged, and connected. Our birthday this year finds us in an especially precarious and stressful moment in time – when the value of empathy and the power of story has never felt more pertinent.

As we weather this challenge alongside our community in and outside of China, we want to take the opportunity to look back on what we have built together, which would not have been possible without the generosity of spirit and bravery of our storytellers, the openness and support of our wider community, and the passion and commitment of our all-star team.

We live on one planet, and are connected as humans across its invisible borderlines, urban sprawls, vast oceans, and wide open spaces. Whatever we feel or focus on that divides us pales in comparison to all that connects us. Everyone has a story to tell, and we will keep striving to make space for and amplify human stories, in new ways and places. Like it felt in that very first Unravel live show – a little overwhelming, electric, connected, and hopeful – I am excited to see what another year brings to all of us.
